Back by popular demand, ASE classes will be held three days a week in March. These great after school programs offer students enriching activities and opportunities to learn and explore their interests. This month we have something for everyone. Classes include: Chess and Brain games, Steam Explorers, Comic Creations, Sewing, and Pop Culture. |
It ’s Read-A-Thon Time! March 23rd - March 29th!! We invite all families to participate in this event that encourage reading as well as to raise money for our school. The Read-A-Thon is a 7-day period (March 23-29, 2020), where we encourage Hillside students to read as much as possible! It is going to be on the week of the Parent-Teacher conferences so students will have more time to read. This year we have the options to enter pledges on our website and on paper. We have some great prizes!

Art Appreciation Week is March 30th - April 3rd! Students will receive inspiration from the Peter H. Reynolds book, The Dot. They will then learn about an artist that was chosen for their grade level. Artists from around the world include; Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, SH Raza and Zenobia Bailey.
All students will create their own dots in the style of a famous mark-maker. Each grade level, will proudly display a beautiful tree illustrated with "dot" art work inspired by famous artists from around the world.

For the very first time, the Hillside PTA is bringing you the opportunity to catalog-shop for Mother's Day. Catalogs will go home the week of March 25th and the sale runs through April 13th.
We are accepting BOTH online and paper orders. Please look through the brochure and see if you can find something wonderful for the special mother in your life.
Items will be delivered to the school a week prior to Mother’s Day. We are very excited for this new program that is simple for everyone involved. Looking forward to another great PTA fundraiser!

Hillside's Yard Sale is almost here! We will be collecting donations of your used or new unwanted items during the week of April 13th. Items should be clean, complete, and in good working order. We are seeking donations in the following groups: clothes, shoes, houseware, kitchen items, bakeware, sport equipment, baby items, jewelry, toys, board games, video games, movies, books, small furniture, small appliances, electronics, holiday items, tools and art. Please drop off items outside Hillside Kindergarten doors when you drop off and pick up your kids starting the week of April 13th.
The Yard Sale will take place at the Hillside Gym on April 18th from 8:00am to 2:00pm. It will be open to the public and unsold items will be donated to a charity. We are looking for volunteers for the event. Time commitment and activity involvement are flexible. Please email Faustina at fauny35@yahoo if you would like to help. Happy Spring Cleaning!

Hillside’s favorite night, Multicultural night is coming on Thursday, April 23rd, from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. We are looking for families to join us in this fabulous event to share the artifacts and food from their countries of origin. We are looking for volunteers for booth-sponsorship for a country and general volunteers throughout the evening. Don’t worry about packing a snack on Fridays, the PTA has you covered. This month we are excited to offer two options for indoor bake sales. The morning option (a warm Philly Pretzel and a water) will be delivered to your child’s classroom in time for snack. The afternoon option will be delivered in time to be an after school snack. Starting in April, look for us on the black top for outdoor bake sales!

Hillside School is turning 65! You don't want to miss this event on Friday, March 20th, from 6:30pm to 10:30pm at Powerhouse Studios. Ticket prices are $60 which includes food and unlimited beer and wine, casino night games and a chance to win some amazing prizes.
Here is a sample of prizes received to date: Devils tickets, Yankee tickets, Nintendo Switch, Ring doorbell, American Girl Doll, Disney Park Hopper Passes, Kalahari, Broadway show tickets, Short Hills Hilton, and many more. In addition, we have received many donations from our faculty and staff including Principal for a Day, Curbside/Door drop off at School, and coveted experiences with our children's teachers.
Sign up now as our limit to guests is fast approaching! This event is for ALL FAMILIES to enjoy (adults only). Whether your child is in kindergarten or fifth grade, you don't want to miss this amazing school community event! Come and be a part of a special night. We are now taking Yearbook Orders!!Please don't miss out on the chance to order this treasured keepsake for your child! All Yearbook orders are due by March 16th!
New this year! Two FREE Customized Pages in your child's yearbook! If you want to do something extra special for your child, you can customize two pages, with pictures and wording, that will only be printed in your child's yearbook. This is free of charge, when you purchase a yearbook, and completely optional.
The price is $16.17 (plus tax) per yearbook, with the option to upgrade to a hardcover for an additional $6.95. Order forms were distributed to all students on Friday. All purchases are done online directly from TreeRing here: www.treering.com/validate (school's passcode: 101565891156127).
***IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARENTS of 5th GRADERS: 5th graders will receive a yearbook for free, as a gift from the PTA for their graduation from Hillside. Please remember you do NOT have to order a yearbook for your 5th grader. If you wish to customize pages for your 5th grader, you can still do so by going onto the TreeRing website, and finding your fifth grader's name.
Yearbook Message Orders: Make your child(ren) or staff members feel extra special by putting a message in the yearbook for them! Orders are currently being accepted for messages to be featured in Hillside's 2019-2020 yearbook. Messages are $4/each, up to 90 characters (including spaces). We had a very busy February! Although a short month, it was packed with events aimed to build our students and our community.
Special thank you to Sarah Birnbaum for organizing and running an amazing Scholastic Book Fair and Family Night, and to all the families that donated books to our teachers’ classrooms that night. The following week, we had the Book Fair Student Shop. Also a very big thank you to Nicole Wagener for chairing part of this event. With all the coins collected during the week, the PTA was able to purchase $600 worth of books for our school. Thank you all for your support!
Another amazing event for the entire family to enjoy was our Valentines Day Family Dance. It was a fun night spent partying the night away. Thank you to Toni Rodriguez for coordinating and running this fun school event.
We also want to acknowledge all the hard work that went into and made this year’s TREP$ program a success. The children really brought on their A game transforming their ideas into businesses and showcasing their wonderful work while looking sharp at the marketplace. Truly inspiring young entrepreneurs. Thank you to Denise Dunton, Robyn Weiss (workshop chair), and Jennifer Bonardi (publicity chair) for all their efforts in making this night a success. Thank you also to everyone that came out to support these young entrepreneurs, wouldn’t be a great event without your support. |
