Hillside Elementary School PTA Newsletter

We are so excited, the Book Fair is this Friday, February 7th, from 6pm to 8pm!!! We canâ€™t wait to see everyone. We are also collecting coins this week for "All For Books Coin Challenge." All coins will help build our teachers classroom libraries. Scholastic will match our coins to help schools in less fortunate areas. Support the Hillside Book Fair by sending in coins. Thursday 2/6 - All Coins and Friday 2/7 - Pennies.

Students will also get to shop on Monday 2/10 and Tuesday 2/11 during the school day. We will accept cash, but also you can use E-wallet, which will allow the children to shop and not exceed your specified amount. Any money not used will be returned to your account.

Come join us for a night filled with love! Our Valentineâ€™s Dance is on Thursday, February 13th, from 6pm to 8pm. There will be a DJ, prizes, and lots of dancing. Pizza, cupcakes, and water will be sold at an additional cost. We will also have candy guessing games. Make sure to stop by the back of the gym where we will have an area to take photos with â€œValentine Themeâ€ props. This is a free PTA event for the whole school. It is not a drop off event. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

We are very excited to offer this innovative program at Hillside! Fourth and Fifth graders are learning how to start their own business. They attend seven workshops after school and apply those lessons at home to build their products. Students have come up with some amazing ideas that they are eager to share at the marketplace, which will be held on February 27th from 6:00-8:00 PM. Please come to support these amazing businesses. Donâ€™t bother cooking that night - the bake sale committee will offer pizza and dessert. So come hungry!

It is time for the PTA Nominating Committee to recruit candidates to hold PTA Officer positions. We are looking for the following positions: Vice President and Treasurer. The election will be held during our May meeting. These positions are a two-year commitment. Being on the PTA Executive Board is a great way to get involved and make a difference in our school. The board of education will hold 2 meetings this month. The meetings will be on February 10th and the 24th starting at 7:00 PM and will be held at the District Office on Foxtrot Rd. The public is invited to attend all meetings. There is time allotted at every meeting for public commitments. If you cannot attend a meeting, videos of the meetings are available on the BOE webpage along with meeting minutes.

The Hillside Yard Sale will be Saturday, April 18th from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Donations can be dropped off outside the Hillside Kindergarten doors during drop off and pick up hours starting April 13th through April 17th. We will accept items such as clothes, sports equipment, household items, books, games, or small furniture. More information about donations and the yard sale will be going out in flyers before the April break. We are also looking for volunteers to help. There are different options available. We can accommodate people with more or less time available and with different hours of availability.

Hillsideâ€™s FAVORITE night is back! Multicultural Night will be held on April 23rd from 6:00-8:00 PM. There will be Arts & Crafts, Henna, Slideshows, and maybe even an awesome photo booth! We are looking for general volunteers throughout the evening. Please contact Anita Balogh at anita.baloghdr@gmail.com and spread the word!

The PTA is very excited to bring back a favorite Hillside tradition, where 5th graders put on a show like no other! This year our play will be based on the movie Annie. Rehearsals have already begun, and we look forward to an amazing opening night in the spring.
